SIGNUP INFO FIELDS AMENITIES LODGING REGULATIONS HORSESHOE BEND RANCH ![]() HOME |
As discussed elsewhere, we have a few amenities for our hunters. Chiefly, you get to spend up to 7 days having the run of several hundred acres of our beautiful Klickitat County Ranch! Plus you benefit from the items listed below to help you enjoy your time here. And if you have suggestions for additional amenities we could provide, please let us know. We value your input.
Target Range: We have a basic target range set up near 1006 Horseshoe Bend Rd for your use when sighting in your weapon. Please feel free to call to schedule a time to sight in your weapon. The target range closes 10 days before the start of hunting season (to avoid frightening game) so please plan ahead. If this is your first time hunting at Horseshoe Bend Ranch you will need to schedule to stop by at least 30 days before the season to demonstrate your marksmanship, or send proof from another range of your marksmanship. You will need to be able to hit a paper dinner plate target at 100 yards for rifle hunting and at 30 yards for archery hunting. If you are unable to hit the target we will refund your deposit and you will not be able to hunt here this year. Camping:
Deer Removal:We have an ATV available for assistance in removing your deer. Call us after you get your deer and we can arrange to get your deer out on the ATV. If you have your own ATV you are welcome to use it for hauling out your kill. If the weather has been extremely rainy we may have to cancel ATV use because of the risk of ruts and tearing up the fields. This is very unusual for late October. We have wheel barrows and handtrucks available in this unlikely event, and will make every effort to assist in getting your deer out of the field. Guided Hunting: We can arrange for a knowledgeable and experienced local guide to accompany you while you hunt. Our guides have grown up in our area and have successfully hunted Horseshoe Bend Ranch themselves. They can assist you at the level you want, whether you are a new or experienced in hunting. They are capable trackers and can also assist with field dressing your kill. And they have enough redneck in them to give you a very enjoyable hunting experience. Guide service is $350 per day, and needs to be reserved in advance. Processing: You are responsible for field dressing your animal. If needed we can arrange to have your deer processed how you want by a local processor and shipped to you if you are coming from out of our area. Please contact us for processing prices. Transportation: If you are coming from out of town we can arrange to meet your bus, train or airplane. The nearest bus depot is Biggs, Oregon (about 25 miles from the ranch). The nearest train station is Bingen, Washington (about 35 miles from the ranch). The nearest commercial airport is in Portland, Oregon (PDX), about 90 miles away, or Yakima, Washington (YAK) about 75 miles away. There is a paved runway in Goldendale, Washington for private airplanes (about 15 miles away) and a jet-capable runway in Dallesport, Washington, about 35 miles away. Transportation from within our local area (40 miles) is complimentary for our guests. Transportation to and from Yakima or Portland is an additional $100 per party. If you will need transporation, please let us know ahead of time so we can meet you. Services: The nearest town is Goldendale, the county seat of Klickitat County, and is about 15 miles away from the ranch. This is a full service town of about 3500 people, with resturants, motels, groceries, gas, hospital, bowling alley and more. The McCreedy Company, on Main Street in Goldendale, can set you up with your hunting liscense and tags, along with ammo, hunter orange, and anything else you may have forgotten. Other Activities: If you are bringing along a non-hunting spouse, or if you are from out of town and have a couple extra days after taking your deer, there are other things to do in our area. Goldendale hosts an observatory which is open for viewing in the evening on weekends in the fall. The Maryhill Museum of fine arts is nearby, as are numerous galleries and the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center. There are many places to hike and explore on The Ranch and within a half hour drive. We are only 20 miles from the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. Other nearby activities include antique shopping in Goldendale and the Gorge, seanic drives, birdwatching, farm and winery tours, biking and rafting. Or if you are lodging with us you may just want to sit back with a good book in front of the fire or watch a movie from our collection.
Fires:We determine if fires are allowed seasonally, based on how wet it has been. Most years the county burn ban is still in effect throughout hunting season. There has only been one year in the last 5 in which it was wet enough to allow fires during hunting season. Klickitat County can get extremely dry over the summer, and if those conditions persist into hunting season we may need to limit the use of any ATV or vehicle in the fields due to fire hazard. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, including closure of camping sites and lack of available motorized assistance for deer removal. If you see smoke or a fire on the ranch or nearby properties, please contact us right away to report it. Parking: Please park only in the designated areas noted for each field. You will be mailed a parking permission slip for your dashboard along with your hunting permission slips. If you need additional complimentary parking permission slips for extra vehicles please let us know. |
