A map of our 3 fields available for hunting.
Fields for Hunting:
We have 3 fields available for hunting – the West Field, the Center Field and the East Field. We will do our best to accommodate your field preference. Each of the three fields covers an area of about a square mile of varied huntable terrain including woodlands, open fields and steep slopes. Woodlands on the ranch are a mixture of open oak and oak meadows, thinned pine forests and thicker and denser pine forests with some fir. All three fields have good game and do well for hunters.
A map will be mailed to you with your permission slips. Note that along the northern boundary (the Little Klickitat River) there are some parcels of land owned by the DNR, which are shown as part of your field for ease of explanation. These small parcels are open for anyone to hunt, however they are surrounded by private land with no access except by private landowner permission.
Note that all of the creeks described in the boundaries below are usually completely dry during hunting season, with the exception of the Little Klickitat River. Note also that gates along roads are kept locked during hunting season except as needed to access camping areas.

The West Field:
The West field is a large open field with no cross fences. On its south is a wooded hill and sheltered watershed of about 150 acres, and on the north side are scattered forests and the very steep and brushy breaks of the Little Klickitat. This field has pressure on the west where there is a full section of DNR land. This pressure can remove deer from the area as they are hunted, but it also pushes deer into the West Field, which is hunted much more lightly than the adjacent DNR ground. If you don’t go below the canyon rim and don’t cross a fence you will be in this field.
West Field Boundaries:
South Boundary: Horseshoe Bend Road.
West Boundary: The fence line north from Horseshoe Bend Road against George Rohrbacher’s property and DNR Section 16, until you come to a cross fence, then east and north along that fence (Columbia Land Trust land) and north straight down into the canyon until the fence ends, then east to the Little Klickitat. Do not go past or around the end of the fence to the neighboring landowner’s property.
North Boundary: The Little Klickitat River except the forest west of the mouth of Dump Creek and below the rim of the cliff right above the river (near the end of the road to the bottom).
East Boundary: From the mouth of Dump Creek on the Little Klickitat River, up to the dump, then west along the fence for about 1/2 mile until the fence turns south, then along that fence and driveway to the gate at Horseshoe Bend Rd.
Access: Access this field from anywhere along the driveway before it turns, or from one of the two gates along Horseshoe Bend Road. Do not access it from DNR Section 16 (which encourages other non-paying hunters to follow you).
Parking: Park off of the driveway at the first corner of the driveway, before the first metal gate. Do not drive in the planted part of the field. Please do not park along Horseshoe Bend Road as it encourages trespassers.
Camping: The camping area is the same as the parking area for this field, north of the corner of the driveway just before the first metal gate.

The Center Field:
The Center Field is a large triangle shaped field area with steep slopes and cliffs leading down to the Little Klickitat on the north. In the northwest corner there are gentle meadows with oak and pine woods before the steep breaks. Along the southeast side of the triangle are mostly pine forests and meadows heading more gently down to Kamholz Creek. The Center field is cross-fenced and fenced for CRP programs in several areas, but all areas of the center field are open for hunting. The Center field has the largest area overall, but large portions of canyon on the north are too steep to hunt. Be prepared for lots of walking when hunting this field. NOTE: This field approaches quite close to Ranch Headquarters House in the northwest area of the field. Remember that before taking a shot.
Center Field Boundaries: West Boundary: Dump Creek, from the Little Klickitat River to the old dump at the top of the canyon, then along the fence lines heading south along the horse pastures to the Headquarters House, then the fence line heading due south approximately 1 mile further, to where the fence and road cross Kamholz Creek (usually dry in October).
South and East: Kamholz Creek, from the road crossing, down into the woods, and continuing on down along that creek to the Little Klickitat River. This line is also the border with the West Field.
North Boundary: The Little Klickitat River.
Access: The only access to this field is from the parking area in front of the Ranch Headquarters House. Enter the field through the wire gate east of the parking area, or take the dirt road south of the parking area along the fence and through the gate at the top of the knoll and into the Center Field. Do not cross the non-hunted fields from Horseshoe Bend Road to reach the Center Field.
Parking: Park in front of (on the south side of) the Ranch Headquarters House or in the camping described below.
Camping: The camping area is through the gate due east of the front of the house, and about 300 yards further east to the point in the field at the end of the fence on the left (north). There is a large tire animal watering tank at the camping area. The camping in this field seems more private than any of the other fields.

East Field Boundaries:
The East Field is about half open fields against Horseshoe Bend Rd, and then it drops off toward the Little Klickitat River in gentle meadows and steep drops depending on where you are. Once you leave the field the terrain is quite varied with woods, meadows, draws and cliffs depending on if you are heading towards Kamholz Creek, Jennings Creek or the Little Klickitat River. The East field is the smallest field, but it has the best access, the most varied terrain and the highest percentage of huntable terrain of all the fields.
South Boundary: Horseshoe Bend Road.
West Boundary: The border follows the fence line along the power poles next to a pond 1/4 mile west of 1006 Horseshoe Bend Road. It continues to where that fence turns west, and follows the fence west and then north to where the road and fence immediately cross Kamholz Creek (usually dry in October). It then follows that creek northeast down through the woods to the Little Klickitat River. This creek is also the boundary with the Center Field.
North Boundary: The Little Klickitat River.
East Boundary: From the mouth of Jennings Creek on the Little Klickitat River, up that creek to where the north-south fence crosses the creek, then up that fence line to where it meets Horseshoe Bend Road where the road turns south.
Access: Access this field from any one of the gates along Horseshoe Bend Rd. Do not cross the fence anywhere besides the gate, as it looks unofficial and may encourage trespassers. Do not access this field from any other direction.
Parking: Park off the road in front of any gate along Horseshoe Bend Rd. Be sure to park only directly in front of the gates or you may get stuck in soft mud along the road.
Camping: Camping is near the old windmill toward the east end of this field. It is accessed by driving through the gate south of the windmill, and then straight across the field to the windmill. Please do not climb the windmill. This campsite is the most likely to be closed in wet weather. If you plan on camping here let us know in advance so we can unlock the windmill gate for you.

Other Fields:
We have other fields but they are not presently available for hunting. They are reserved as refuge fields. In most cases they have poorer cover and potentially dangerous bullet paths into residential areas. We do not allow hunting in the other fields.
