The vultures are watching for your mistake!

Hunting, along with other outdoor sports, is a hazardous activity. Horseshoe Bend Ranch has done its best to identify potential hazards so that hunters can reduce their risk of injury. Hunters should familiarize themselves with this list and be aware of their environment and other potential hazards that are not listed:

Little Klickitat River Old Barn in West Field and Horseshoe Bend Hill Turkey Hunting Area Cliffs along the Center Field Old Foundation in West Field and Horseshoe Bend Hill Turkey Hunting Area Windmill in East Field - Don't Climb the Windmill! Feel free to squish any of these! General Hazards throughout the Horseshoe Bend Ranch:
  • Rattlesnakes
  • Cougar, Bear, Wildcats, Skunk, Badger, Porcupine and other potentially hazardous animals
  • Injured, wounded, trapped or cornered animals of any type
  • Black Widow, Brown Recluse and other poisonous spiders
  • Ticks, including deer ticks which carry Lyme Disease, and other biting insects
  • Bees, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, scropions and other stinging and biting insects
  • Potentially dangerous domestic animals (bulls, cattle)
  • Cliffs, steep and unstable hillsides and rock falls
  • Forest hazards (falling debris, branches, trees, widow-makers, logs, etc)
  • Swift deep water of the Little Klickitat River
  • Hazardous swift water during melt/runoff seasons
  • Barbed wire fences
  • Abandoned pioneer dumps (broken glass and metal hazards)
  • Abandoned barbed wire fences that have not been located
  • Old cables and slash piles from logging operations
Field Specific Hazards:
Besides the general hazards listed above hunters should be aware of the following specific site hazards and avoid them in the fields they are hunting:

East Field Deer Hunting Area:
  • Collapsed old barn and outbuildings near windmill
  • Old Windmill – do not climb the windmill!
  • Abandoned barbed wire fences in meadows and woods along east edge of field
  • Old covered cistern along McClintock Creek
  • Electric Wires on poles through woods (they are live)
Middle Field Deer Hunting Area:
  • Dump at west edge of field along canyon
  • Old barb wire in woods along field
West Field Deer Hunting Area:
  • Old cistern at top of Horseshoe Bend Hill
  • Old foundations at Horseshoe Bend Town Site
  • Main dump at Horseshoe Bend Town Site
  • Dump at east edge of field along canyon
  • Old barbed wire along canyon edge
  • Old barn near Horseshoe Bend Road
  • Abandoned farm implement on east edge of field south of camping area
Kamholz Draw Turkey Hunting Area:
  • Electric Wires on poles through woods (they are live)
  • Old cistern along McClintock Creek
Horseshoe Bend Hill Turkey Hunting Area:
  • Old cistern at top of Horseshoe Bend Hill
  • Old foundations at Horseshoe Bend Town Site
  • Main dump at Horseshoe Bend Town Site
